Second Annual Walk for Kids

The North Andover Foundation for Education (NAFE) raised over $4,000 during the 2nd annual Walk for Kids, held September 29th at the Franklin Elementary School. The event was billed as both a fund raiser for the North Andover Public Schools and a way to increase awareness of NAFE and its mission.

“This was really a fun event,” said NAFE board member, Michael Reed. “With beautiful weather and plenty of food and entertainment, it was a great way to spend some time with friends and family and raise money for a good cause.”

Walkers raised money through pledges and prizes were awarded to those participants who walked the most laps around the school. The first place winner took home an Apple iPod for largest sponsorship. Prizes were also awarded to winners in several different age categories. In addition to the walk itself, participants enjoyed music by the band The Time Flies The Time Flies as well as ice cream donated by the Main Line Creamery in Andover, yogurt donated by Stoneyfield Farms and a variety of treats donated by volunteers for a bake sale.

Money raised during the event will go toward supporting the North Andover Public Schools. NAFE’s mission is to generate private and corporate donations to supplement the public school budget. NAFE’s aim is to provide funding to promote excellence and innovation in our public schools. NAFE is currently in the process of establishing their goal for the 2007-2008 school year and will be working to institute a measurable, targeted objective. This objective will be the result of a collaborative effort between NAFE, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. James Marini, and the school principals.

NAFE is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization established in 2006, committed to the preservation and enhancement of the education in North Andover public schools.
