If I donate to the Foundation, where will the money go?

This year money raised by the Foundation will be awarded to the school committee to either offset further teacher layoffs or to replace some of the eliminated teaching positions throughout the district.  During the 2006-2007 the school department eliminated 28 positions, most of them classroom teachers. We believe that these positions must be reinstated and the money we raise this year will be put towards that goal. Our long-term aim is to become instrumental in supporting initiatives that will result in improvements in the quality of education in North Andover. We have lost considerable programming in recent years. These losses include, but are not limited to, loss of art and music programs at all levels, elimination of the library program, devastation of the middle school foreign language program, loss of tech ed, and a severe reduction in elective choices at the middle and high school.  It will require an extensive community effort to rebuild public education so North Andover has quality schools we can all be proud of.

Will Foundation money be spent during the 2006-2007 school year?

We do not believe that money will be spent during this current school year.

Who decides how the Foundation money will be spent?

The Foundation has a Board of Directors that will vote on how the money will be directed.  When the Foundation money is handed down to the School Committee, it will be given with specific instructions on how the money should be used.  This directive will come from the Board of Directors after we hold a series of public meetings to determine how the money should be spent.
